I've been hoping we could pry Strome away from the Island since last summer. Kadri and Strome would be a good 1-2. |

The Leafs need to clean up their own house before looking to do that for others. Buy out Liles and keep Komiserak in the AHL. Komi only has one season to go and the benefit of buying him out is marginal since the Leafs will not be spending to the cap next year anyway.
Next summer the Leafs would still have 1 more available buyout and then could look at other teams problems. Who knows, Grabo could regain his previous form. I doubt it but it's possible.
There are only a few high quality UFA's out there at the moment. Toronto's highest needs #1 and a top pairing D man are presently not on the UFA market as of July 5th.
The Leafs still have a lot of work to do before they are a contender. They still have not shown that they can make the playoffs in an 82 game season. |

I heard a rumour that to qualify for an amnesty buy-out, you have to have played a minimum number of games with that club the season before.
As much I'd love to see the Leafs "buy" the Isles 1st round picks from here to 2017 in exchange for taking DiPietro, I'm not sure it's allowed. |

Keep him as a back up for the year. |

If we were truly allowed to trade for DiPi and buy him out, I'd hope Nonis would get a lot more than Strome.
25 million bucks ought to buy you half the farm system and some picks to boot. |

I don't have high hopes for many of those guys coming to Toronto anyways. And Strome would be worth not overpaying for a guy like Clarkson. |

Have you guys considered that maybe what you need to get Grabovski's line going is to flank him with two more small one-dimensional forwards who hold onto the puck for too long?

Send Komi in the trade to the Isles so they still have to use a buy out |

I don't think the isles are going to trade Strome cause he has been playing RW and can be the RW to JT. Have any of you guys seen Strome play in person. If so, how was he? |

Since NYI aren't concerned about cap space but actual $$$
Leafs can do:
Komisarek for Dipietro+Strome
NYI can buy out, bury or use Komisarek
Leafs can buy out Dipietro

It makes sense. Isles save a lot of money, and we still force them to use a buy out. Plus we get a little something in return. |

Strome is not a little something he's a top prospect and expected to be very good. Also, think about it from the isles perspective. They're going to trade their top prospect in order to buy out DP. That would be stupid |

That helps, but again, we're taking on a 25 million dollar buyout vs. Komisarek's $3 mil or so.
We're still helping them out to the tune of 22 million bucks. The best prospects in the MLB or NFL (leagues that make the NHL look like they're using Monopoly money) aren't worth that kind of money, even to the Yankees.
For perspective, Andrew Luck got a $14.5 million dollar signing bonus.
Stephen Strasburg got $7.5 million.
Cutting a cheque for over 20 million to basically buy a player in the NHL has no precedent, but to get one prospect... I doubt it very much, unless that prospect was a generational talent. |

Mike why waste a compliance buyout on Komisarek.... a regular buyout would only be 1.667 million for 2 years.... since his salary is only 3.5 million this year even though cap is 4.5 million |
